MMA, Pride Champion, Fedor Emelianenko is coming out of retirement. That’s huge news! Why is it relevant to a discussion on fitness? Because Fedor is a beast, a fitness beast. Don’t believe me?
What’s cool is that most of Fedor’s opponents are bigger or appear to be in better “shape”. His secret weapon is that he excels in every Component of Fitness: Strength, speed, agility, endurance, etc.
Phil Nye has an excellent post on The Chive with some highlight GIF’s of Fedor in action. One of MMA’s legends is coming out of retirement
here’s how it works
Fedor trains for functional strength. The big takeway from the following video is he doesn’t use a lot of weight on any of the resistance exercises. This guy is a legend. He became a legend because of his workout ethic. Don’t tell me you couldn’t integrate parts of his workouts into yours.
Notice that he trains quite a bit in the the Conversion Phase of The Fitness Pyramid. That just means he uses resistance training in moves peculiar to his sport – MMA.
Here’s to wishing Fedor success on his comeback, and remembering to always bet the underdog.
