How many times have you heard that to lose weight you just have to cut calories? Well that’s crap! Do you think eating 1,000 calories of donuts is the same as eating 1,000 calories of broccoli? Eat nothing but broccoli and you will accomplish your weight loss goals. Yeah right!
what are “good calories”
The source of your calorie intake is more important than the amount you take in. The closer to earth it is, the better it is for you. Cutting back on the processed foods you eat. If you eat “good calories”, you enable your body to process, use and get rid of the excess efficiently. Eating “good calories” supplies the macro and micro nutrients to assure your body is an efficient machine.
Stabilizing your blood sugar also has a tremendous impact on your overall energy level. Try to level out the peaks and valleys of your blood sugar during the day. That means that before an intense workpout, a fruit jucie based smoothie will give you muscles enough energy to carry you through. After the workout a protein based smoothie (or chocolate milk) will supply the damaged muscles the nutrients needed for repaiur.
the Paleo Diet
I understand the Paleo or caveman diet. It abides by the principles I outlined above. However, it appears to take too far a leap back in the evolutionary chain. It also seems too restrictive to work for most people. Cave dwellers’ full-time job was getting food to eat. So they ate what was easiest to acquire. If they had a Dunkin Donuts, they probably would have ordered a whole grain bagel as part of their diet.
If you’re on the Paleo diet, more power to you. But, you won’t enjoy eating, anywhere near as much as I do on a daily basis.
Schedule cheat days and go totally off-grid with what you eat for 3 meals per week. Only if you hit your workout goals for the week. I happen to pig out on Friday lunch & dinner, and then Saturday dinner, so I can enjoy my weekend. Spiking your insulin a few times a week has the benefit of making sure your body always has enough reserve capacity to see you through.
